Dog Whisperer

I like watching the Dog Whisper show. Every time when I come home from my 8 a.m. class, I turn on the T.V and watch Cesar Millan training the human and their dogs. Now some of you are wondering what in the world does dogs have to do with energy? Down on below the other posts, I posted a blog about Chakras. When we feel uneasy, that means our chakras are spinning out of turn. What triggers a dog to react and misbehave is how we project our feelings out. Watching the show, I learned that the human, has to be in a calm and assertive state of mind, and that is to keep your dog in a balance state of mind. When you are feeling anxious, you project the same feeling to the dog, and the dog acts it out. It's not because of the type of breed, it is because of the human. Cesar Millan does a good job keeping things in order. By that I mean making the human become the pack leader the dominant one. Not only does he train the dogs and the humans, but he builds confident in them. It makes the world a better place to know that dogs are a human's best friend. If you have a dog, remember what Cesar's philosophy, "exercise, discipline, and then affection."

Are Energy Drinks Good For You??

Energy drinks are very popular with the teens and the college set nowadays. With highly suggestive names like Red Bull, Rock Star, Monsters or Amp, it has sky rocketed in the market. However, are these drinks good for the health, or are they just some kind of anti-drug? In this article, Energy in a Pinch: The Facts on Energy Drinks, it talks about the pros and cons about the energy drinks. This article also mentioned that energy drinks are not new to the world. It has been here for quite a long time. The article states, "Researchers point back to 1905 when Scotland produced a type of energy drink called Irn-Bru. Later in the century, Japanese businessmen were known to consume "genki drinks," which means healthy drinks, to keep them alert during the long hours when driving home. With the energy drinks today, it contains caffeine, vitamin B, and herbal ingredients; mostly sugar though. Researches warned people to not confuse the energy drinks with other drinks like Gatorade. In some other countries, like France, Red Bull has been banned due to sport related health problems. The drinks may help in a pinch, but are not as healthful as natural food and drink alternatives.

Annotated Bibliography - Toyota Cars??

The picture above is a Honda Solar Car.

Richard, Michael Graham. (August 17, 2005). Cars + Transportation. Solar-Powered Toyota Prius Project. Retrieved April 8, 2010, from http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/08/solar-powered_t.php

This article focuses on going green with cars. Michael wrote about a Canadian engineer, Steve Lapp, who installed solar panels onto his Prius roof. He quoted from Lapp's plan, "...the fact that [current Toyota Hybrids] can run on electricity alone, with their gasoline engines off, offers the opportunity to provide them with more electricity and therefore drive further with the gasoline engine off." This plan was referring that since Toyota Hybrids cars are running when their gasoline engines are off, electricity can be saved and use to make the car go faster. Lapp then compared the hybrid car's electricity to a light bulb. I think that having a solar car is good for the environment, but there might just be some flaws to it as well.

Junk To Funk

A way of recycling energy is to make a piece of art. In my Art Appreciation class, we had a project to do. It was called a Junk to Funk Art Project. The criteria was to use recycled items and turn them into something that looks interesting and is functional. An example is making a tote bags out of plastic bags from the grocery stores that we go to. Having said that, we do go to lots of grocery stores and get quite an amount of things. We are bound to have at least several plastics bags. It was very interesting and hard to do this type of project because it had to be functional. We presented our art piece yesterday. It was fun to see the other students' artwork. Mine however, didn't turn out as I expected it to be. It was due to the fact that I didn't clearly read the instructions. This kind of thing is not only happening around the campus, but nation wide. Find out what you can do to make recycle things fun and useful.

Annotated Bibliography - Inner Energy

Chakras are some sort of energy that can be found in the body. In Linda Mackenzie's article, Chakra Energy, she wrote about the different levels of the human body. Level one consists of the material level, the second level is the subtle level, and the third is the spirit level. She then wrote about Chakras and Auras in the human body. There are 7 major chakras that are located in the body. Starting off on the top to the bottom of the body: crown, brow, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral, and lastly, the root. All of these things represents a different feeling in your body. Chakras indicates a wheel or some sort of movement. Chakras are the psychic transformation centers of the body. Down below the website, there are charts that about the different characteristics that the Chakras can have.

Berry's Essay Exerpt

After reading Wendell Berry's essay, The Use of Energy, I came to realize that energy can be a nexus to everything around us. One thing that sticks out to me is the way he wrote about the circle of life. The example that he chose was agriculture. My parents are farmers also, and they tell me how to do farming, therefore, I can relate to what he wrote. When I went to the farm, I saw a pile of chicken poop on the ground. I didn't like the smell of it, or even the sight. I complained and asked them why they use it. They told me the cycle of why they raise chickens, and use their natural fertilizer for the vegetables. It was interesting to hear this. They also told me that they don't like to use machines for the crops and they do it by hand. Even though it consumes more time, they are willing to do so. My family consists of having lots of land for farming. It's been like that with their parents and so on. I appreciate all of the effort that they do for a living, and some day, I hope to continue this family tradition.

Annotated Bibliography - Oil Drilling Bad?

Garber, Kent. (March 4, 2009). Energy and Environment. Oil Drilling Debate Rages on, 20 Years After the Valdez Spill. Retrieved April 6, 2010, from http://www.usnews.com/srticles/news/energy/2009/03/04/oil-drilling-debate-rages-on-20-years-after-the-valdez-spill.html?PageNr=1

This article is about the oil spill in Alaska. Kent Garber, the writer of this article, wrote that after the oil spill in Valdez. congress quickly passed tougher safety laws, and for the oil companies to invent new technologies for this to not happen again. Ever since then, there has been difficulty with the economy, environment, and security related. Through the years, an Energy Department found new technologies to help the delivering of the oil and gas safely to its destination. There were still some problems, however, it takes little steps for the people to find out what is best and safest way to deliver oil.

Consuming ALL!!!

This post will be different from the rest. Below this wave of writing, there is a bar graph of how much electricity is consumed in the U.S. at the end of 2001. I know that it is outdated, but it has good information. This graph was retrieved from Energy Information Administrative. As you can see in the graph, kitchen appliances were the most consumed. It reached a 26.7% share of total, the share of total electricity consumed in the U. S. As for other equipment, only 2.5% was consumed. Around in the middle were water heating, lighting, and space heating. They were, 9.1%, 8.8%, and 10.1% that were consumed. About 16.0% were consumed for air conditioning. 7.7% were consumed for other end uses, not specifically listed. Then the rest was from 7.2% on home electronics, 6.7% on laundry appliances, and 5.0% on HVAC appliances, furnace fan, ceiling fan, etc.

I guess this was true back in 2001. Now, I think that the percentage for home electronics will rise due to new technology that was invented at the end if 2001 up until 2010.

Annotated Bibliography - Wind Generator

Knowing that wind is part of a natural energy is amazing. This article is about the current wind resources that we have from the year, 2007 up until 2009. This article focuses on Ohio's wind turbines, an engine that extracts energy from a fluid or air flow. Wind is a renewable resource that doesn't pollute the area within. Good things about having wind turbines is that it requires a lot of workers and good for the business. Some issues that the wind turbines have is its variability, need constant wind to generate for electricity. Wind turbines causes damages on houses if it is too near. I personally think that wind turbines are good if they are to be placed where there is a lot wind.

Linking to A Friend

Hello, todays post is short because I am linking to a friend's energy blog. This person has many unique ideas and energy information on her blog. Even though she has many things written down on her blog, she has one post that was very interesting. It was about getting energy from waterfalls. I've heard something about that recently and it gets very interesting. If you'd like, check out her blog HERE! This person's energy blog is also very interesting, I liked how she has slideshows of waterfall to the right of her blog.

Annotated Bibliography - Solar Panel Homes

Warner, J. (2009, April 12). Are Solar Power Homes in Your Future?. Retrieved April 6, 2010, from http://ezinearticles.com/?Are-?Solar-?Power-?Homes-?in-?Your-?Future?&id=2212942

John Warner wrote this article about the usage of solar panel houses for the future. Nowadays, people are starting to buy homes that are eco-friendly and good for the environment. Solar panel houses are used so less energy would not be wasted. With the use of solar panel homes, it is guaranteed that people can save thousands of dollars yearly. Next, Warner writes in the article about how to assemble and establish working conditions about the solar panel homes. I personally think that owning a solar panel home is brilliant, however, what if the people, who live in the north of Alaska, have panel homes but don't have sunlight during the winter. It can be a big problem.

Safe Water?

By looking at the picture, what do you think about it? How do you feel if you were to drink this water? What if this is the only water left on earth for you to drink, would you drink it? For me, I’m not so sure. All human species, including animals needs water. Human species needs clean water though. Nearly one million people lack access to safe water (Water Facts, 2008). Every fifteen seconds, children die from water disease related. Women also can only find little water that is often polluted. About 43% of people die from water-related diarrhea. This Link Here is a website about helping others in need of clean water. This was co-founded by Gary White and Matt Damon. Their vision is: “The day when everyone in the world can take a safe drink of water.”

BP Energy Caculator

In this post, I calculated how much energy my family and I consume a year. The website for this is HERE. I never thought that we can consume so much energy from just one family. Imagine the whole country as one. That would be a lot of energy that we are wasting. My energy that is consumed by my family is about 41640 kWh/yr. Kilowatt-hour is a unit to measure how much energy is used over time. Try this out to see how much you and your family consume energy. Have fun!!

Henry David Thoreau

In Henry David Thoreau’s essay, “Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,” he talks about going out to the woods living by himself and comparing his life with the other people’s life. In his essay, Thoreau writes, “Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!” Before that, Thoreau was saying in his essay that the people are being too complicated with their lives. They multitask with everything that they have. It is not necessary to do too many things a time. That’s why Thoreau wrote, “Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.” Try to be simple with your life, Thoreau would say. Thoreau also wrote to just get loose. Stop whatever you [the people] are doing and just close your eyes. Try not to think of anything, like you are floating on a piece of cloud and your miseries going away. Try to live comfortably without worries of making breakfast, lunch, dinner. Try to become one with nature itself.

In Thoreau’s essay mentioned above, it can also relate to energy; that meaning, to use energy in an appropriate way. To not waste energy would not only help us out, it can help the economy also. I think that when Thoreau was writing his essay, he means not only just you, the people, but anything that is a natural resource to everyone’s needs. Instead of wasting energy, you can recycle them.
